History of Shepparton Soccer Club
Established in 1959 by Macedonian immigrants, the club then known as Makedonija, began its path to glory in its inaugural season in 1960 playing in the Goulburn Murray Soccer Federation.
The clubs first Premiership success arrived in 1965 and was followed up in 1966 winning league and being presented the Gaylard Bros. Cup. Makedonija entered the newly founded North Eastern Soccer League (NESL) in 1972.
With this came a change in name, firstly to Shepparton East and then Orrvale for a short period. As training was at Lemnos Oval (opposite Campbells Soups), the club therefore decided to adopt the name Lemnos Soccer Club and the beginning of the most dominant period of success that any soccer club within the region and possibly Australia wide could ever experience.
Between 1974 – 1985, Lemnos Soccer Club would play in eleven of the twelve Grand Finals, going on to win 8 of them. This would include the success of 1981 – 1985 five in row Premierships. A feat that is still yet to be conquered by any club that has ever competed against the club.
The late 80’s to the early 90’s saw the club go close on several occasions but it wasn’t until back to back Premiership success in 1996 & 1997 that the club was able to celebrate glory.
The club would go on to seal another 2 back to back Premiership successes in 2002-2003 and 2007-2008, bringing its total to 14 Senior Men Premierships, which is still unrivalled by any club. In 2003, Shepparton Soccer Club fielded its first Open Age Women’s team and only a short time won our first Premiership in 2005.
Over the years, the club has experienced many Junior grade Premiership success with the most dominant period coming in the 1990’s, where a number of these players would play an integral part in success in the 2000’s. Today, the Shepparton Soccer Club Juniors play in the Shepparton Junior Soccer Association whist the Men compete in the Bendigo Amateur Soccer League.
